Ongoing Research
Enhancing Climate Resilience of Coastal towns of Bangladesh with Nature-based solutions
This two-year research project (2022-2024), funded by Global Center on Adaptation (GCA), focuses on scaling up adaptation for climate resilient infrastructure in coastal Bangladesh. This project addresses the need for advancing collection, storage, and analysis of climate data, and knowledge sharing and training for practitioners to integrate such information in the planning processes and investment decisions. The project has a particular focus on Nature-Based Solutions (NbS), as NbSs can provide cost-effective solutions to climate-proof infrastructure against climate hazards while providing resilient services and livelihoods. Scaling up of NBS projects has been hampered in Bangladesh due to lack of technical capacity to design nature-based interventions, of institutional capacity to govern the implementation of projects, and of evidence of the effectiveness of NBS to mobilize investment. This study will cover the broad goal of developing climate data and analytics at the town level that will inform capacity building activities for Bangladeshi institutions to integrate adaptation and NBSs into infrastructure planning processes and concluding with a knowledge base for NBS investments in coastal regions in Bangladesh.
